Defective Medicine Cabinet and Vanity

LVT Number: 17637

Tenant complained of a reduction in services based on a deteriorated bathroom medicine cabinet and vanity cabinet. The DRA ruled for tenant and reduced his rent. Landlord appealed, claiming that the damage to the cabinets was minor. Landlord also claimed that tenant caused the damage because her children splashed water on the cabinets. The DHCR ruled against landlord. The conditions weren't minor, but could cause injury. The medicine cabinet was rusted on the bottom, and the tracks for the mirrors were coming apart.
