Landlord Fined for Installing Fire Escape Without a Permit

DOB issued a violation notice to landlord for installing a fire escape without a permit. DOB showed that the fire escape didn’t appear on alteration plans approved by DOB. The ALJ dismissed the violation, finding that it was delivered improperly to landlord. DOB appealed and won. The violation notice was properly mailed to landlord even though it omitted a box number. And the violation otherwise was proper for work without a permit. Landlord was fined $800.
