Landlord Fined $800 by DOB for Performing Electric Work Without a Permit
LVT Number: #32256
DOB issued a violation notice to landlord for doing electrical work without a permit. DOB's inspector noted that he observed new electrical wiring and piping for lights in the building stairs and hallways of the second and third floors. At a hearing, landlord claimed that the wiring wasn't new but was the same wiring as when he bought the building in 2013. The ALJ didn't believe landlord and fined him $800. Landlord appealed and lost. Admin. Code Section 27-3018(b) requires a master electrical business or special electrician to file an application with DOB for a work permit to install electrical work other than low-voltage electrical work. Landlord produced no proof that the wiring predated his building ownership other than his testimony, which the ALJ didn't find credible.
