Handyman Eliminated
LVT Number: 11901
(Decision submitted by Karen Schwartz-Sidrane of the Lake Success law firm of Daniels Norelli Schwartz-Sidrane & Cecere, LLP, attorneys for the landlord.) Rent-controlled tenant complained of a reduction in building-wide services after landlord eliminated the building's handyman. The DRA ruled against tenant, since an inspection showed that landlord was maintaining janitorial services in the building. Tenant appealed, claiming that the amount of his rent was based in part on labor recoupment charges for four full-time and one part-time building workers, including the handyman. The DHCR ruled against tenant. Since landlord continued to provide adequate janitorial and maintenance services, no rent reduction was warranted.
