Court Rescinds Administrative Order Requiring Special Notice in Eviction Cases During Pandemic

On April 3, 2024, the Chief Administrative Judge of the Courts of New York issued Administrative Order Number 143 of 2024, which rescinded a number of prior administrative orders issued during 2020 and 2021 to address concerns during the COVID-19 public health emergency.

On April 3, 2024, the Chief Administrative Judge of the Courts of New York issued Administrative Order Number 143 of 2024, which rescinded a number of prior administrative orders issued during 2020 and 2021 to address concerns during the COVID-19 public health emergency. The rescinded orders were now found by the Court to be "presently unnecessary, inapposite, and/or otherwise inoperative." Among the rescinded orders were the prior AO/268/20 (11/17/20), which required  with the service of notices of petitions in eviction proceedings a statement on colored paper that "During the Coronavirus Emergency, You might be entitled by law to special defenses and protections relating to evictions. Please contact your attorney immediately for more information. If you don't have an attorney, please call 718-557-1379 or visit www.nycourts.gov/evictions/nyc/."
