Tenant Tripped on Carpeting Used as Doormat

LVT Number: 17024

Tenant sued landlord for negligence. Landlord had taken a leftover piece of hallway carpet and placed it outside the door of tenant's apartment as a doormat. Tenant tripped over the carpet doormat. Landlord asked the court to dismiss the case without a trial. The court ruled against landlord. Landlord appealed and won. Placing the piece of carpet over the hallway carpet didn't create a dangerous condition in and of itself. And tenant showed no proof that raised any question of fact as to whether the carpet doormat was dangerous.
