Tenant Complied with Settlement Agreement

Landlord sued to evict tenant for making illegal alterations in two adjoining apartments. Landlord and tenant signed a settlement agreement in court. Tenant agreed to pay back rent owed and then legalize the work done in the apartments. Landlord later claimed that tenant hadn't complied with the settlement agreement. The court ruled for landlord. Tenant appealed and won. Tenant was out of town at one point, and landlord refused to accept a check from a third party written on tenant's behalf. In the circumstances, tenant had complied with the settlement agreement.
