Landlord sued to evict tenant for nonpayment of rent. Tenant claimed that she was responsible for paying only $562 per month because she received SCRIE benefits. The court ruled for tenant and dismissed the case. Landlord’s rent demand didn’t present a good faith approximation of what tenant owed because it sought $4,000. This was much more than what tenant actually had to pay given her SCRIE status. So the rent demand was defective and the case must be dismissed.
