Rent Demand Must Be Made in Spanish
LVT Number: 13748
Landlord sued to evict Spanish-speaking tenant for nonpayment of rent. Tenant claimed that landlord's rent demand was defective because it wasn't made in Spanish. Landlord knew that tenant didn't speak English. Landlord claimed that he had met with tenant in his office and that an oral rent demand was made to tenant in Spanish by his secretary. Tenant denied this. The court ruled against landlord. Landlord didn't present enough proof that a clear rent demand for a specific amount of back rent was made in Spanish.
