NYCHA Tenant's Granddaughter Can't Get Apartment

LVT Number: #27601

Tenant’s granddaughter appealed NYCHA’s denial of her application for succession rights to tenant’s apartment after tenant died. The court ruled against the granddaughter and dismissed the case. Tenant passed away one month after tenant requested permission for her granddaughter to permanently reside in the apartment. Even if the request had been immediately granted, the granddaughter still hadn’t continuously lived in the apartment with NYCHA’s written consent for at least one year prior to tenant’s death.

Tenant passed away one month after tenant requested permission for her granddaughter to permanently reside in the apartment. Even if the request had been immediately granted, the granddaughter still hadn’t continuously lived in the apartment with NYCHA’s written consent for at least one year prior to tenant’s death. So NYCHA reasonably denied the succession request.
