MCI Increase Added to MCR

Rent-controlled tenant complained of a rent overcharge. She disputed the MCI increase that had been added to her rent. The DRA ruled against tenant. Tenant appealed and lost. Tenant's rent on Feb. 1, 2002, was $656 per month. The total MCI rent increase was $133 per month. Landlord could collect only a 15 percent rent increase per year for the MCI. So landlord properly added $98.45 to tenant's rent for the first year after the MCI increase was added, and another $34.55 the next year.
