Landlord Must Give Lease to Hotel Tenant

LVT Number: 11135

Hotel tenant complained that landlord refused to give him a six-month lease. The DRA ruled against tenant and dismissed the complaint. Tenant appealed. He'd moved into the hotel in 1983 at a weekly rent of $70. The DHCR ruled for tenant. Under the rent stabilization code, he could become a permanent tenant and ask for a six month lease. Any action by landlord to prevent tenant from becoming a permanent tenant could result in penalties.
