Landlord Held in Contempt for Failing to Correct Violations
LVT Number: #30051
Tenant sued landlord, seeking repairs. Tenant asked the court to find landlord in contempt for failing to comply with a default order. Landlord asked the court to vacate the default. The court noted that it had required landlord to abate conditions found in an HPD report listing 89 violations. Disabled tenant testified that her cooking gas was interrupted since December 2017, causing her to eat out or eat canned foods. She stated that landlord wouldn't address repair requests or maintain the building properly. Landlord didn't claim financial inability to maintain the building, but claimed conditions were repaired or never violated the Housing Maintenance Code. The court ruled against landlord and imposed $1,400 in sanctions.
