Landlord Fined for Gas Piping Work Done Without DOB Permit

DOB issued a violation notice to landlord for failing to maintain the building in a code-compliant manner, based on prohibited installation of a gas-fired generator and gas piping without a permit. Landlord claimed that Con Edison had inspected the gas pipes and found them to be safe. The ALJ ruled against landlord and fined him $2,700. Landlord appealed and lost. ECB noted that the work was done without required DOB certification and inspection.
