Landlord Fined $625 for Failing to Maintain Boiler

DOB issued a violation notice to landlord for failing to maintain a boiler. Landlord claimed that he had mitigated the problem before the notice was issued and had corrected it before the first hearing date. But DOB had disapproved the claimed correction. So the ALJ imposed the standard penalty of $625. Landlord appealed and lost. Landlord wasn't entitled to a reduced penalty because the condition wasn't fixed by the first hearing date.
