Eviction Proceeding Delayed Pending Tenant's Bias Complaint

LVT Number: 12601

Landlord sued to evict HUD tenant for keeping a dog in his apartment in violation of his lease. Tenant asked the court to delay the case. Tenant had filed a disability bias complaint with HUD. He claimed that he needed the dog's companionship to help him cope with his disability and that landlord was discriminating against him by trying to enforce the no-pet clause of his lease. The court ruled for tenant, delaying the eviction case until either HUD made a ruling on tenant's discrimination claim or for six months, whichever occurred sooner.
