Broken Door Lock Allowed Intruder to Enter Building

LVT Number: 8055

Tenant sued landlord for negligence after being assaulted in landlord's building. The trial court ruled for tenant and awarded her over $250,000. Landlord appealed, and the appeals court found the jury's decision to be fair. The jury had reasonably concluded from the proof shown that landlord's failure to maintain lobby door locks had caused tenant's injury by an unknown attacker. The lock periodically didn't work and hadn't been repaired for some time.
